Join the Scott Township Commissioners, the Scott Township Fire District (Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Glendale Hose Co. No. 1, East Carnegie Volunteer Fire Department and Scott Township EMS) and the Scott Township Police Department for Scott Township Public Safety Day on Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 10:00 a.m.to 2:00 p.m. in the Lower Lot of Scott Township Park. Events will include:

• Child Car Safety Seat Installation Inspections
• Children's Fire Safety House
• SWAT Team Demonstration
• Child Identification Fingerprinting
• Sparky and Pluggy Fire Safety Mascots
• Fire Extinguisher Training

April 2010: In Memory of Ron Morris, Life Member
Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department extends its condolences to the family of Life Member Ron Morris, who died April 14, 2010 after a long illness. Ron was a retired firefighter with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, and served Bower Hill after his retirement as a firefighter and as department photographer. Viewing will be at William Slater II Funeral Home on Greentree Road in Scott Township on April 17th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and April 18th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a firefighters memorial service at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. on April 18th. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Grace Church on April 19th at 10:00 a.m. May he rest in peace.

March 2010: Congratulations to Scott Township Firefighters
Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department offers congratulations to our fellow Scott Township firefighters from Gelndale Hose Company No. 1 on the delivery of their new truck, a 2010 KME Combination Pumper and Rescue. The vehicle will go into service this month.

February 2010: Fish Fry!
Bower Hill VFD once again presents the annual Good Friday Fish Fry. Advance phone orders will be taken Thursday, April 1st from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday, April 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 412-221-3497. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 2nd, and close at 7:00 p.m. or whenever we run out of food, whichever comes first. See the Fish Fry page for the menu and prices. The Junior Fire Brigade will have a bake sale at the fish fry for your dessert. This event is an important fund-raiser for the department, and even more, it's a great community-building event. Come and meet your friends and neighbors for good food and good company.

February 2010: Benefit Spaghetti Dinner at Bower Hill VFD
Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department will host a spaghetti dinner on Sunday, February 21, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the BHVFD Memorial Hall. All proceeds will be used to defray the medical expenses of department lieutenant Bryan Pritchard, who is awaiting a kidney and pancreas transplant. The dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, tossed salad, bread and butter, dessert and a beverage. Advance tickets are $7.00 for adults (age 12 and over), $5.00 for children age 3 to 11, and free for children age 2 and under. Tickets at the door are $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for children age 3 to 11, and free for children age 2 and under. Meals are available for eat-in or take-out. February 2010: Weather Emergency Information
The snowstorm of February 5th and 6th has caused widespread power outages and left many roads in the area obstructed. If you have electricity, please remain at home unless it is absolutely necessary to travel. If you do not have electricity, please try to find a place to stay with a relative or friend. If you cannot do this, Scott Township has established a warming center. Call 412-276-5300 Extension 210 for information and instructions. During the weather emergency, please try to help friends and neighbors when you can. Bower Hill VFD and the other Scott Township fire departments have crews staffing the fire stations around the clock for the duration of the emergency, and are making periodic rounds of the area to help people in special need. The Scott Township Emergency Operations Center is operating and staffed around the clock as well.

January 2010: Condolences to Township Commissioner
Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department offers sincere condolences to Scott Township Commissioner Pat Caruso on the death of her mother, who died on January 26th. May she rest in peace.
