The generator on Engine 1 is out of service. The portable generator from the command vehicle has been placed in service in Engine 1. It is in the generator compartment. Remove it from the compartment before starting it. The parts have been ordered for the hydraulic generator, and the unit should be repaired by late December.
October 2009: Operational Issues
The Tower buildings, Commons area, Health Center and Assisted Living units at Providence Point are all partially occupied as of October 24th. The Dementia unit is not yet occupied, but it is certified for occupancy, and may be occupied at any time.

Green Commons Drive is now open. Construction of the new residences of the Laurelwood development may cause temporary lane restrictions or road closures. The road work continues on Vanadium Road and Montgomery Avenue from Bower Hill Road to the Collier Township line. Expect severe traffic problems and limited to no access to hydrants. For calls at existing structures on Vanadium Road or Green Commons, expect obstruction of access to the structure and any potential water supply. Additional resources may be needed.

A crew is needed for PR appearances at block parties on Rockfield Road (the block between Spring Hill Road and Twin Oaks Drive) on Saturday, September 26th at about 16:00 (event is 16:00 to dusk), and on Brookfield Road (between house numbers 2010 and 2070) on Sunday, October 18th at about 10:00 (event is 10:00 to 18:00). Sign up at the station.
September 2009: Operational Issues
The siamese connections throughout the Providence Point complex except for the South Tower have NST 2.5" connections. The South Tower has the correct Pittsburgh Thread connections. You will need to use a Pittsburgh (F) to NST (M) adapter to connect to any saimese connection except those on the South Tower. The developer has promised to replace the incorrect NST fittings, but no timetable has been presented.
August 2009: Operational Issues
The Knox Box safes have been installed in Engine 1 and Engine 3. They still need to be programmed for each member's access codes. Continue to operate as before until the system is fully functional.

The plumbing on Engine 1 has been repaired, and the tank is filled. It is back in regular service. Continue to use Engine 3 for first response to all structure fires, and use Engine 1 for first response to vehicle fires or other non-structure fires, non-fire incidents and CO alarms.

Bridgeville Knights of Columbus are holding a Public Safety Officers memorial service at Bridgeville VFD on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. All members are to report to the station by 18:30 in full dress uniform.
July 2009: Operational Issues
The Tower buildings at Providence Point are partially occupied as of August 1, 2009. The Dementia Support unit will be occupied during the month of August. The Health Center and Assisted Living units will not be occupied until October at the earliest, pending installation of smoke doors to bring the facilities into compliance with the life safety code. The address for all alarms in these areas of the complex will come in as 500 Providence Point Boulevard. This is the address for the commons area. For all calls, the alarm company should give a general location, and during daylight hours, security should meet you at the gate.

Bower Hill VFD will be providing assistance to Our Lady of Grace Church by staffing the card games at the parish festival on August 13, 14 and 15. Anyone interested in helping, see Jerry.

Green Commons Drive will be closed from July 15, 2009 until work is completed on the sewer line replacement. It may be as late as October 31, 2009. At the same time, sewer lines will be replaced and the road will be repaved on Vanadium Road and Montgomery Avenue from Bower Hill Road to the Collier Township line. Expect severe traffic problems and limited to no access to hydrants. Do not expect assistance, compliance or consideration from road or building construction crews. For calls at existing structures on Vanadium Road or Green Commons, expect obstruction of access to the structure and any potential water supply. Additional resources may be needed.

Bower Hill will enter a team in the Allegheny County Firefighters Convention Battle of the Barrel at Heidelberg on June 8th, 9th and 10th, at 6:00 p.m. each day. If you would like to participate, call Justin Short. Information is in the lounge at the station.

Bower Hill firefighters are welcome to participate in the Scott Township Employees picnic at Consol Energy Park for a Washington Wild Things game on June 19th at 6:00 p.m. The cost is $15 per person, and forms are in the lounge at the station. Forms and payment must be returned to the township office by May 27th.

Construction will begin on the Laurelwood development on Green Commons Drive soon. Be aware that traffic flow may be obstructed on both Green Commons and Vanadium at any time during the project, and as noted, expect no assistance or compliance from the developer or construction crews for emergency responses.

Bower Hill VFD is holding a structural collapse rescue and firefighter survival training course at the station on May 30th and 31st, 2009. Please be at the station by 08:00.

Map books have been updated by Bryan Pritchard, and are in service in all vehicles. These include Providence Point and other apartment complexes, as well as designated air medical landing zone information. Check them out, and become familiar with the areas to which we may be called to respond.

As of February 2009, six units of the patio homes at Providence Point are occupied. The developer will be providing us with an updated occupancy list each month. The first occupancy in the tower buildings is projected for May 2009, with occupancy progressing upward from the ground floor. About 70 units will be occupied by the end of 2009, with full occupancy of about 500 residents by December, 2010. The health center unit will begin accepting patients in July of 2009. Once this is open, there will be a medical response team of a nurse and a security guard to respond to all medical emergencies at the independent living residences. There will be an infirmary on site to handle medical conditions that do not require hospitalization. The swimming pool will be filled during the Spring, and will be put into use in May of 2009.

The street names at Providence Point are: Washington Way, Adams Avenue, Jefferson Court, Madison Avenue and Monroe Court. The main driveway is Providence Point Boulevard. Calls at occupied units will be dispatched with the proper street address, but units still under construction will continue to be recognized as 301 Kane Boulevard.

The fire hydrant in the Industrial Park at 98 Vanadium Road at the A-D corner of Building A is out of service. Use the hydrant on side C of Building A.

Kirwan Heights VFD is holding a Special Vehicle Rescue class at Station 124 on January 27, 29 and 31. Sign up list is on the board in the lounge.

At Kane, the fire alarm system is being replaced. There will be two functioning alarm systems at times during the transition, but continue to use standard procedures when investigating alarms. Do not assume an alarm is false if only one of the two systems shows a problem.
