Active and Associate Members

Active and Associate Members are the firefighting members of the department. Everything the department does is arranged to support these members, who directly fulfill the department's mission to protect life and preserve property.
New members in these categories are considered to be Probationary Members for one year following their acceptance into the department. They must become trained in Basic Firefighting within the Probationary Membership period. They must attend a specified percentage of the drills and meetings of the department, and may perform firefighting and emergency service duties under the supervision of the officers only to extent of their level of training.
After completing the required training and after the one-year probationary period is completed, the firefighter becomes an Active (if he or she is a resident of Scott Township) or Associate (if he or she is a resident of another municipality) Member. The member may then participate fully at fires and emergency responses under the direction of the officers, or he or she may be limited to exterior firefighting or support roles if physical condition or other factors require it. An Active or Associate Member may qualify as a driver of the department's vehicles after completion of a state-recognized Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) and after qualification on each department-owned vehicle.
Active and Associate Members must particiapte like all other members in a certain percentage of the meetings of the department to have "good standing" status which allows the member to have a voice and vote in the department's business proceedings.
Only Active, Associate and Life Members who respond to a specified percentage of the calls and attend a specified percentage of the drills may hold line officership positions in the department.
Active and Associate Memebers are the heart of the department. For information on how to join this category of Membership, click here to go to the "Join Us" page.
