1994 Ambulance (1st) (1995 - 2002)

The 1984 ambulance had by far the most use of any vehicle in the fleet, and after ten years of service, it was in need of replacement. As was the case in 1985, Bower Hill opted to purchase an existing vehicle. This unit came from a small builder in Ohio, KJT Sentinel. The company did not build many ambulances, and did not continue in the ambulance market for very long. This was the builder's demonstrator unit. Nonetheless, this ambulance had many good features, and it served well.

This would be the last ambulance to be operated by Bower Hill VFD. Two years after it was delivered, Bower Hill and Glendale Hose Company No. 1 merged EMS operations under a jointly-owned organization called Scott Township EMS, and each department leased their ambulances to the new agency. The "Scott Township, PA" graphics on the unit as seen in this photo taken on February 28, 1995, the day after the unit arrived, would be changed in 1997 to "Scott Township EMS." The "A4-1" remained on the front fenders throughout the vehicle's service life, even though the radio call sign would be changed to "74-1" (the radio call sign for STEMS was "Station 74"). In 1998, when the Allegheny County station numbering was adopted, this wouldn't need to be changed, as STEMS went from Station 74 to Station 740, and this unit would be known as "Medic 741."

This was a large ambulance, with lots of storage space. These were the days before the "Super Duty" chassis, and the vehicle always operated very near its GVW rating limit. After its career with Bower Hill and STEMS, this ambulance was traded in to Pfund Superior Sales, and later served with Fort Cherry EMS in Washington County.
